Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), Moss Landing, Monterey Bay, California Moore & Taber used compaction grouting ground treatment methods to mitigate liquefaction potential of foundation soils for a new facility addition. The MBARI facility is situated on beachfront property over a deep section of low-density Holocene alluvium. Consequently, remedial soil stabilisation was recommended and subsequently applied. The Moss Landing area had experienced liquefaction-related damages as a result of the October 17, 1989 "Loma Prieta" earthquake. In addition to the liquefaction mitigation efforts, sandy soils in the area of a proposed deep footing excavation were treated with "super-fine" permeation grout to stabilise the excavation walls. Unconfined compressive strength testing on samples trimmed from the field yielded 28-day strengths on the order of 800 psi.
