Moore & Taber used compaction grouting ground treatment methods to improve a zone of trapezoidal fill beneath a section of Interstate 10 in Los Angeles, California. Compression of this buried deposit had reflected at the surface in a notable "dip" in the pavement section. Average treatment depths were on the order of 30 feet below existing grade. Approximately 10,000 cubic feet of low-mobility grout was emplaced through 94 injection locations, resulting in an estimated average soil density increase of approximately 10 percent. This is one of the busiest segments of highway in the nation, and consequently, the grouting work was conducted at night. All equipment and personnel were removed from the highway at the end of each shift. Pavement repairs were effected upon completion of the ground improvement program.
